Our plan is to give grants to 10 university students in 2021. We invite you to join us with a donation which we will match up to $2,500 USD.
Why is it so important to give grants to university students? In Guanajuato, the average level of education is up to the second year of middle school. It takes talent and determination for a student to make it to university and takes an additional effort to actually get a university degree. Lack of finances for transportation, books, internet connection and instructional material are major factors for students not going on to higher education.
We know a diploma can change a life. We will double each dollar you donate up to $2,500 USD. With your help, we can reach the amount of $5,000 USD and be able to give grants to 10 university students from the Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende’s scholarship program.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM MISSION: The Biblioteca Scholarship Program assists students of limited resources via scholarship awards and activities that broaden the educational aspirations of students and support the values of their community.
The scholarship committee selects students based on both economic hardship as well as academic criteria. Selected university students receive $8,800 pesos throughout the year. In addition to economic support, the committee provides those students with mentorship during their studies. 50% of the students are from rural areas. Those students are generally the first generation of graduates in their family or community.

I have a degree in Early Childhood Education, and I strongly believe that access to education is the key to fostering a harmonious society. Raised in San Miguel de Allende, I am very familiar with the Biblioteca Publica’s work since it is one of the oldest NGO’s in the city. I am also aware that for some of the local youth, commitment to an education is an expensive luxury and seemingly impossible to access.
